What Does Monogram Washer Error Code UE or UB Mean?

The UE or UB error code on a Monogram washing machine indicates an unbalanced load during the spin cycle. The washer’s vibration sensors detect when laundry has collected on one side of the drum during spin, creating excessive vibration. Monogram washers will attempt to redistribute the load automatically (by adding water and tumbling) up to several times before displaying UE or UB.

This is one of the most common washer error codes and is almost always caused by laundry loading rather than a mechanical failure.

Common Causes of UE / UB Error Codes

• Single heavy item – Washing one large, heavy item alone (bath towel, jeans, blanket) creates an unbalanced load that cannot be distributed evenly.
• Tangled items – Sheets or duvet covers tangled around each other form a heavy mass on one side of the drum.
• Overloaded drum – An overfull drum prevents free movement and balanced distribution during spin.
• Washer not level – A washer not sitting perfectly level on all four feet has reduced imbalance tolerance.
• Worn shock absorbers – Worn suspension dampers reduce the machine’s ability to handle even slight imbalances.

How to Troubleshoot UE / UB Error Codes

1. Pause and redistribute – Open the door and redistribute laundry evenly around the drum. Break up tangled clumps. Close the door and restart the spin.
2. Add or remove items – If washing a single heavy item, add two or three similar-weight towels. If the drum is overstuffed, remove some items.
3. Check washer leveling – Place a level on top and adjust the front leveling feet until level in both directions. All four feet must make firm contact with the floor.
4. Run a Spin Only cycle – After redistributing, run a Spin Only or Drain & Spin cycle to complete spinning.
