What Does Monogram Washer Error Code E23 Mean?
The E23 error code on a Monogram washing machine indicates that the flood protection system has been activated — the washer detected an excessive amount of water in the drum or tub, triggering the safety drain. This error is triggered when the water level sensor detects a water level significantly above what was requested by the selected wash cycle.
When E23 appears, the washer stops filling, activates the drain pump to remove excess water, and halts the cycle to prevent overflow.
Common Causes of the E23 Error Code
- Faulty water inlet valve stuck open – The most common cause. If the solenoid-operated inlet valve fails in the open position, water continuously trickles into the drum even when the washer is not actively filling, eventually triggering the flood protection.
- Failed water level pressure sensor – A pressure sensor that reads incorrectly may tell the control board the drum is nearly empty when it actually has adequate water, causing the washer to keep filling until flood protection triggers.
- Siphoning through drain hose – If the drain hose is inserted too deeply into the standpipe or located below the washer’s minimum drain height, a siphon effect can pull water back into the tub.
How to Troubleshoot the E23 Error Code
- Check the inlet valve – After a wash cycle, turn off the water supply valves and observe whether water continues to drip into the drum. Ongoing dripping with the valve closed confirms the valve is stuck open.
- Check drain hose position – Ensure the drain hose is inserted only 6–8 inches into the standpipe at the correct minimum height per your Monogram installation guide.
- Reset the washer – Unplug for 60 seconds. The drain pump should have already removed excess water. After reset, run a short cycle and monitor.
