What Does Monogram Washer Error Code E22 Mean?

The E22 error code on a Monogram washing machine indicates a fill timeout — the washer was unable to fill with water within the expected time limit (typically 8 minutes). When the control board activates the water inlet valve to fill the drum, it monitors the water level sensor. If the water level does not rise to the required level within the fill timeout window, E22 is triggered and the cycle stops.

When E22 appears, you may notice that the drum has little or no water in it, or that filling started but stopped before reaching the proper level. This code is common on Monogram washers using the GE electronic control platform.

Common Causes of the E22 Error Code

  • Water supply valves not fully open – The hot and cold water supply valves behind the washer may be partially or completely closed, restricting water flow.
  • Kinked or clogged fill hoses – The rubber hoses connecting the washer to the supply valves can become kinked or internally clogged with sediment and mineral deposits.
  • Clogged inlet valve screens – The water inlet valve on the back of the washer has small mesh screens that filter debris. These screens can become clogged with mineral deposits, rust, or sediment, severely restricting flow.
  • Failed water inlet valve – The solenoid-operated inlet valve can fail electrically or mechanically, preventing it from opening to allow water in.
  • Low water pressure – Monogram washers require a minimum pressure (typically 20–120 PSI) to fill within the allowed time. Low household pressure can cause fill timeout.
  • Failed water level pressure sensor – If the pressure sensor gives incorrect readings, the washer may keep filling and time out even with adequate water.

How to Troubleshoot the E22 Error Code

  1. Check water supply valves – Locate the hot and cold water valves behind the washer and ensure both are fully open (turned counterclockwise).
  2. Check for kinked hoses – Inspect fill hoses from the wall valves to the back of the washer. Straighten any kinks.
  3. Clean the inlet valve screens – Turn off both water supply valves, disconnect fill hoses, and use needle-nose pliers to carefully remove and rinse the small mesh screens inside the valve ports.
  4. Test water pressure – If you suspect low pressure, check flow at nearby fixtures. A whole-house pressure issue needs to be addressed at the main supply or pressure-reducing valve.
  5. Reset the washer – Unplug for 60 seconds, plug back in, and attempt a new cycle.
